How to make traditional mint tea (Atay)

A Moroccan breakfast just isn’t complete without a pot of traditional mint tea!

Simple recipe

What you will need:

  • A decent size bunch of mint leaves
  • sugar (depending on your preference I normally add 4 tablespoons- yes I have a sweet tooth!)
  • Green tea
  • of course a tea pot!

Method:

  • Start by boiling enough water to fill the tea pot
  • Then, put about 1 tablespoon of green tea in the pot along with the mint
  • Pour the water into the tea pot and add the sugar

There you have it the simplest way to make authentic Moroccan mint tea- Impress your friends and family, you can also boil some eggs and place some cumin and salt on a small way. You can’t get more traditional than that !

Sometimes the tea may be too strong or too weak depending on the size of your pot the next time just adjust the green tea. If  if too weak you can add a bit more green tea, if too weak remember for next time and just add less green tea 🙂

I hope you enjoy

As the name suggests, a blog orientated around my cultural heritage, Morocco. The blog serves to give an insight into not only moroccan food and my passion for sharing my authentic moroccan recipes but also culinary therapy. Culinary therapy is as mental health experts suggest, cooking with helping to relieve depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and other conditions and many counselors are now using cooking or baking as therapy tools for people suffering from mental-health problems. If I can inspire anyone to cook/bake as a way to help improve their mental state, then I have achieved my purpose for creating this blog. Enjoy and support me on this journey to positivity :) Fancy a Moroccan inspired breakfast? Now selling Moroccan pancakes in London, email: maroccfood@outlook.com
